Overview

Theater in the Pines is a large group campsite located along the beautiful Alpine Loop Scenic Byway in the Wasatch Mountains. The Mount Timpanogos Wilderness Area is adjacent. Visitors enjoy hiking the Aspen Grove Trail to the summit of Mount Timpanogos.

Natural Features:

The campground is situated among stands of pine, fir and aspen trees at an elevation of 7,600 feet. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant and autumn leaves put on quite a show.

Recreation:

Hiking is very popular in the area. Several trails begin nearby, including the 14-mile round-trip Aspen Grove Trail, which begins next to the campground and climbs to the summit of rugged Mount Timpanogos. The 2-mile Stewart Falls Trail begins just above the campground's historic stone amphitheater.

Theater in the Pines sits along the 20-mile paved Alpine Loop Scenic Byway. It passes through alpine canyons, mountain meadows, aspen groves and pine forests, offering breathtaking views of the Wasatch Range.

Facilities:

The campground can accommodate up to 150 people. Its large grassy field offers grand views of the surrounding peaks. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. A large gravel parking area is on-site.

Nearby Attractions:

Cascade Springs, Deer Creek Reservoir, Tibble Fork Reservoir and the Timpanogos Cave National Monument are just a few of the surrounding attractions.

Know Before You Go

Highway 92 outside the campground has a 30-foot vehicle length restriction; vehicles longer will not be allowed on the road
Site accommodates 150 people only; any additional persons above the maximum will be asked to leave
Check in with host at Mt. Timpanogos Campground upon arrival
A per-vehicle, per-day fee will be collected on site for extra vehicles
Gates are locked from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Horses and off-road vehicles are not permitted in the campground
When booking early in the season (until mid-June), please check with us to make certain drinking water is available. Spring run-off can create impurities in the water system.
Before camping, visitors must purchase a recreation pass from an entrance station on either side of the Alpine Loop; 3-day passes are $6; 7-day passes $12; annual passes $45

From I-15, take exit 272 for 800 North toward Orem and proceed east on Highway 52 to the mouth of Provo Canyon. Go east on Highway 189 for 7 miles to Sundance Resort turnoff, Highway 92. Take Highway 92 for 6 miles. Campground will be on your left, past Sundance Resort and Aspen Grove Recreation Area.
