Overview

Redondo Campground offers a more rustic but less crowded site near the popular Jemez Falls area of the Santa Fe National Park. It is located in a mature stand of pine and fir trees, which makes the campground a great location to enjoy the mountain air.

Natural Features:

The campground is located in a beautiful and shady ponderosa and Douglas fir forest at an elevation of 8,400 feet. A variety of wildlife make its home in the area. The open mountain meadows are often filled with wildflowers through the summer months.

Recreation:

Short day hikes are popular activities, due to the relatively level terrain surrounding the campground. Day trips include hiking or mountain biking to 70' Jemez Falls and the old railroad tunnels along Gilman Tunnels Loop.

A series of hot springs is located south of the campground, including Jemez Springs located 11 miles away, provides visitors an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing dip in warm mountain spring water.

The campground is also a popular cross-country skiing destination during the winter months. Throughout the year, the area is also good for birding, viewing wildlife and for plant identification.

Facilities:

The campground offers many wooded sites available for tent and RV camping. Some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, but it is advised to arrive early for the best sites.

Each site is equipped with a table and campfire ring. Very few sites have grills. Drinking water and hookups are not available at the campground. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided. Firewood may be for sale at the campground.

Nearby Attractions:

San Diego Canyon Overlook, which is accessible by a short hike from New Mexico Highway 4, is nearby and provides spectacular views of the Jemez River Valley and surrounding cliffs and mountains.

Bandelier National Monument is just over 15 miles from the campground, with over 33,000 acres of rugged but beautiful canyon and mesa country. Visitors enjoy hiking and viewing ancient petroglyphs and human dwellings from as far back as 11,000 years.
