Wompatuck State Park, MA

Description

Located just a 35-minute drive from downtown Boston, Wompatuck State Park offers 260 wooded campsites (138 with electricity), 12 miles of paved bicycle trails, and many miles of wooded bridle paths, hiking trails and mountain bike trails. Fishing and boating are popular activities in the Aaron Reservoir. One of the most notable features of the Park is Mt. Blue Spring which is a popular source of fresh drinking water. Visitors can help themselves for free.

Boston Harbor Islands and Plymouth Rock attractions are nearby.

April 13, 2009 Announcement: Due to electric system failure, the opening date for Wompatuck State Park has been postponed to Thursday April 30, 2009.


To insure fairness for all MA customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 6-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

The reservation must be in the name of the primary occupant.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all our campers:

  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Massachusetts State campgrounds.
  • Pets are welcome in most campgrounds, but please keep them restrained, clean up after them and prevent them from disturbing others. Also, you must bring proof of rabies vaccination when camping with your pet.
  • Respect the 14-day camping limit. To ensure that many campers enjoy our parks, campers and camping equipment are limited to 14 cumulative days occupancy in any one park between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
  • Don't overcrowd your campsite. Please limit site occupancy to four people or one family (parents and children 17 or under). Please limit site equipment to two tents or one trailer (or RV) and one tent. Also, please no more than two vehicles per campsite.
  • Massachusetts law requires that children age 16 and under wear a helmet when bicycling. The MA DCR encourages all cyclists to wear a helmet and cycle safely.
  • Check-in time is 1:00 PM; Check out time is 11:00 AM.
  • Road E, site 9 and Road Z site 2 are equipped with raised grills and extended table tops for wheelchair access.
  • All Electrical sites have 20 amp service , no on-site water hookup, or swerage. However, water is available for filling and use of dump station included with camping.
  • Friends of Wompatuck donations in the form of a check can be made to Friends of Wompatuck, c/o Treasurer, Union St. Hingham, MA 02043.

From the South and Cape Cod:

Rte. 3 North to Exit 14 and the intersection with Rte. 228. Follow Rte. 228 North about 5 miles to Free Street on the right. Turn right onto Free Street one mile to the park entrance on the right. The camping area is 1.5 miles into the park on the right.

From the Norht and Boston:

Follow Rte. 3 South to Exit 14 and the intersection with Rte. 228. Follow Rte. 228 North about 5 miles to the intersection with Free Street on the right. Turn right onto Free Street and follow it one mile to the park entrance on the right. The camping area is 1.5 miles into the park on the right.
