Waquoit Bay Nat. Estuarine Res, MADescriptionThe name of this park is "Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve." This reserve covers 2,500 acres of coastal upland, wetland, beach and bay on the southern shore of Cape Cod, in the Towns of Falmouth and Mashpee. Washburn Island, in the middle of the Bay offers hiking trails and 11 primitive campsites. While offering limited services (boat access only, no showers, flush toilets or water) Washburn Island is a special camping experience never to be forgotten. Services & Amenities:
Alerts and Important InformationIMPORTANT: Beginning in the 2010 camping season, MA State Parks prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities. Firewood will be available at the campground for a donation of $5.00 per bundle. Transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities may result in eviction, or substantial fine, or both. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all Massachusetts State Parks and Campgrounds. The reservation must be in the name of the primary occupant. To insure fairness for all MA customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 6-month Maximum Window cannot be changed or canceled until 18 days after the reservation was made. If you choose to cancel or change your reservation, a $10.00 fee will be charged. The reservation transaction charge is non-refundable. Cancellations made on the day of arrival must be made by contacting the campground and will result in the loss of the first night's camping use fee plus the $10.00 cancellation fee. Fees will be deducted from any refunds due or will be added to future reservations. Refunds of $5.00 or less cannot be processed. If you leave early, please check-out at the contact station. If you are unable to arrive on your scheduled arrival date, you must call the campground. Failure to contact the park by 8:00 A.M. the morning following your scheduled arrival date may result in your campsite being reassigned to another camper and forfeiture of all fees paid. Getting There:Waquoit Bay Nat. Estuarine Res149 Waquoit Highway Waquoit MA 02536 From Boston: Follow Rte. 3 South to Sagamore Bridge/Cape Cod Canal. Follow Rte. 6 East over the bridge to Exit 2 and the intersection with Rte. 130. Follow Rte. 130 South to Great Neck Road in Mashpee. Just after the Flume restaurant, bear right to the Mashpee Rotary. Halfway around the Rotary take Rte. 28 North. Take a left on a small road immediately after Edwards Boat Yard (4 miles from the Mashpee Rotary). Parking is only available in a large town administered parking area adjacent to the intersection of Rte. 28. From Providence/West: Follow Rte. 495 or Rte. 195 to Rte. 25. Rte. 25 crosses over the Bourne Bridge and becomes Rte. 28. Follow Rte. 28 South to Rte. 151. Follow Rte. 151 to the Mashpee Rotary. Halfway around the Rotary take Rte. 28 North. Take a left on a small road immediately after Edwards Boat Yard (4 miles from the Mashpee Rotary).
