INDIAN WELL PICNIC SHELTER., CTStatus: Closed through Thu May 27 2010 Season Dates Max reservation window: Thu Oct 21 2010 Later Dates DescriptionIndian Well was so named because of the Romeo and Juliet-like Native American legend surrounding the Park's scenic waterfalls and the splash pool at the bottom of the falls. However, no local Native Americans ever actually used the area as a well. Although the falls are lovely, the Park's primary attraction is its location on the western bank of the Housatonic River, offering opportunities to boat, fish, and swim. The shaded picnic grove at the water's edge is a is a pleasant place in which to spend a lazy summer day.Geography:Indian Well Picnic Shelter is located on the western bank of the Housatonic River. Recreation:Activities include boating, picnicking, river fishing, field sports, hiking, and swimming. Facilities:Park facilities include restrooms, a boat launch area, and picnic shelters. Alerts and Important InformationNew for 2009 A temporary alcohol ban will be in force from June 12, 2009 through September 7, 2009. No alcohol will be allowed in the park during this time period. You can now make a reservation for the day before your arrival and up until 11 months in advanceAll Parking fees are additional and will be collected on arrival at the gate. Please contact the park if you wish to have electricity inside the shelter. The park can be reached at 1-203-735-4311. Water not available. Indian Well Pavilion is an Open Air Shelter located in the northern section of the park. Daily parking fee for all vehicles using park. No pets Memorial Day through Labor Day.
