Description

An oasis on the plains, Bonny Lake State Park offers a welcomed change from the rolling prairie and grasslands that surround the park. Bonny Lake State Park has colorful vistas in the fall and a variety of year-round recreational opportunities. Enjoy camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, picnicking and wildlife viewing at Bonny Lake State Park. There are three campgrounds with 155 campsites for your enjoyment.

Alerts and Important Information

Due to budget cuts, East Beach campground will close permanently on Oct. 1, 2009. Nearby Wagon Wheel will stay open year-round but electricity and the shower building will not be available from Nov. 1 to March 31. Foster Grove campground will have electric year-round with hydrant water available. Shower building in Foster Grove will be closed from Sept. 30 to mid April. Visit the parks website listed below for current camping conditions.
Winter snowfall and spring rainfall have a significant effect on the water level in Bonny Lake. The North Cove boat ramp is currently dry and North Cove Campground is approximately 1/3 of a mile to the closest shoreline. The Marina Jetty which encloses the boat slips and gasoline dock is also dry. For current park conditions visit state parks website at www.parks.state.co.us or call the park at 970-354-7306.

From Denver: Take I-70 east to Burlington, then 23 miles north on U.S. 385. Turn east on County Road 2 (3 1/2 miles to entrance) or 3 (1 1/2 miles to entrance). OR Take I-70 east to Byers, then east on U.S. 36 (approximately 108 miles) to Idalia. Continue east two miles on U.S. 36, then turn south on U.S. 385 for 6 or 7 miles to County Road 2 or 3. The gate entrance on County Road 2 is 3 1/2 miles from highway and County Road 3 is 1 1/2 miles from highway.
