MCGRATH SB, CAStatus: Open through Fri Dec 31 2010 Season Dates DescriptionSeason for Peak Fees: 03/01 to 11/30McGrath State Beach is one of the best bird-watching areas in California, with the lush riverbanks of the Santa Clara River and sand dunes along the shore. More than 200,000 species of birds can be found in the area. A nature trail leads to the Santa Clara Estuary Natural Preserve. Two miles of beach provide surfing and fishing opportunities, however, swimmers are urged to use caution because of strong currents and riptides. The park offers campsites by the beach. Alerts and Important InformationRodent Warning McGrath SB is temporarily closed due to flooding and sewer issues until March 1st, 2009. Beach access at McGrath State Beach is limited from the campground due to flooding and nesting habitat protection. There is no easy access. To get to the beach, campers will have to walk approximately 0.5 mile or more to get around the inland lagoon. Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be assessed a per night fee at the park.Reservation period for 2009-2010: Park, open weekends only Nov 1, 2009 thru Apr 1, 2010.
