Description
Located along the beautiful Wisconsin River near the site of Native American encampments, Council Grounds State Park is a favorite for water enthusiasts. The park offers many recreational opportunities including wooded trails, beach area, and an accessible fishing pier. A boat landing offers access to Lake Alexander plus there are several areas for shore fishing.

GROUP CAMPGROUND INFORMATION
- On each site, there is a large grassy area for tents, a centralized fire pit, a water hydrant, and a grill along with several picnic tables. No hoses may be attached to these hydrants; they are for bucket fill-up only.
- The fill-up and dump station are located on the left side of the road before the Family Campground (see map); a dumpster and recycling bin are also located there. There is also a dumpster and recycling bin located near the entrance to the Group Campground on the north side of the road.
- Vault bathrooms are located near the parking area for Sites A and B and near the parking area for Site C. Showers are available in the Bathroom Building in the Family Campground.
Firewood is not allowed on Wisconsin State Park or Forest properties from out of state or from more than fifty miles away from the property you are going to. Also, firewood that has been in the
Wisconsin Emerald Ash Borer quarantined area

Reservations are available from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day each year. From Labor Day to October 31, sites are 1st-come, 1st-serve basis only. October 31 to May 1 the campground is closed to all camping. May 1 to the Wednesday before Memorial Day all sites are 1st-come 1st serve. All campers must register before setting up. All vehicles in the park must have a vehicle admission sticker which can be purchased upon arrival at the park.
Click here for cost of the sticker. Vehicles in the campgrounds must park on the gravel driveways or in designated parking areas. Pets must be kept on a leash no more than 8 feet and under control at all times. They cannot be left alone at the campsites. Reservations cannot be cancelled online.

Council Grounds State Park is located on the northwest edge of Merrill, on Council Grounds Drive. Exit Hwy 51 at the Hwy 64 Exit. Take Hwy 64 west 3 miles to Hwy 107 North. Take Hwy 107 north 1.8 miles to Council Grounds Drive. Take Council Grounds Drive south 1/2 mile to the park entrance.
