Description

Just 20 miles from downtown Richmond, the capital of Virginia, Pocahontas State Park has been one of the more popular parks in the state park system. Swift Creek forms the nucleus of the park, which is centered in a wildlife management area. Hiking, biking and horseback riding are popular activities in the Park. The Park's Olympic size swimming pool is a welcome relief from the summer heat. New facilities at the park include a Civil Conservation Corps Museum, Amphitheater featuring events from the Richmond Symphony to a Civil War Day, and the Heritage Center conference facility.

LEAVE YOUR FIREWOOD AT HOME!!
A firewood quarantine has been established for the following localities: counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Louden, and Prince William; and the entire cities of Alexandria, Fairfax City, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park. It is unlawful to transport firewood from these localities. In general, firewood can harbor insect pests under the bark and in the wood. The transport of infested firewood has been identified as a leading cause in the introduction of harmful forest insects into un-infested forest areas. Help us keep our state parks pest free by leaving your firewood at home.

In Chesterfield County, about 20 miles from Richmond. From I-95, take Exit 61 and go west on Route 10 to Route 655 which is Beach Road; or take Exit 67, go north on Route 150 to Route 10; go east to Beach Road. The park is four miles on right; or take Route 288 from I-95 to Route 10 East and go one mile to Beach Road. Follow park signs from there.

Between Aug 14 to Labor Day each year, many of our parks that offer swimming may experience a shortage of qualified lifeguards, resulting in swimming being available on Saturdays and Sundays only (closed Monday-Friday). Swimming is available Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend. If your park trip depends on swimming daily, we advise you to reserve at another time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Pursuant to Code of Virginia, no fire of any sort is permitted, including charcoal, between February 15 and April 30, except between the hours of 4PM to midnight. This includes campgrounds and picnic area / cabin grills. Camping stoves that are self-contained are permitted (ex. Coleman Stove). from Feb 15 2010 to Apr 30 2010
