Description

Colonial Dorchester is an archaeological treasure and a walk into South Carolina's past. The park is on the site of the town of Dorchester, which flourished from 1697 through the Revolutionary War. And just beneath the surface is one of the most complete archaeological records of colonial America which offers visitors the rare opportunity to join with park staff in hands-on archaeology.

Colonial Dorchester is a protected site. Metal detecting and removal of artifacts are prohibited. Grills are not allowed and visitors are asked to take out any trash they generate due to the unique nature of the site.

Colonial Dorchester is located northwest of Charleston on SC 642 and 4 miles south of Summerville via SC 165. Driving Directions: From I-26: take exit 199-A. Travel 3 mi on Hwy 17 through downtown Summerville to Hwy 165. Turn left onto Hwy. 165 and travel 2.75 mi to Hwy 642. Turn left on Hwy 642 and travel 1.75 miles. Park entrance will be on the right.
