Description

Taughannock Falls State Park's namesake waterfall is one of the outstanding natural attractions of the Northeast. Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. Gorge and rim trails offer spectacular views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail. Campsites and cabins overlook Cayuga Lake, with a marina, a boat launch, and a beach nearby. A multi-use trail, for hiking and cross-country skiing, winds past sledding slopes and natural skating ponds. The park also offers organized activities, including tours through the Taughannock Gorge and summer concerts along the lakefront.

Taughannock Falls State Park is located in the town of Ulysses, in Tompkins County.

Among the park's numerous activities are beach swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, picnicking, park-organized recreation programs and viewing waterfalls,

Facilities:

Many park facilities are accessible to disabled visitors, including the beach, rustic cabins, food concessions, nature trail, picnic pavilions and picnic tables, scenic viewpoints, showers, and campsites. The park also offers a year a around boat launch, a marina with available transient slips, a boat pump-out station and a campground dumping station, In season an ice skating rink, sledding hill, snowshoeing and cross country sking are available. The gorge trail to the falls is open year round.

Nearby state parks include Robert H. Treman State Park, Buttermilk Falls State Park, Allan H. Treman State Marine Park, Sampson State Park, and Watkins Glen State Park. Add "Nearby family friendly attractions include the Museum of the Earth, Cayuga Nature Center, the Sciencenter and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Sapsucker Woods. Many Finger Lakes wineries are close by as well."

Alerts and Important Information

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

  • This is a park with small sites.
  • A bridge prevents launch of boats that project more than 6' above water line.
  • Campsites may be rented for a 1-night minimum stay all season.
  • Cabins must be rented for a 2-night minimum during non-peak season and for a 7 or 14 night minimum during PEAK season.
  • Pet owners must show a current rabies certificate.
  • There is also a 215 foot waterfall near by.

    Peak season runs from the end of June to the end of August. A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.
