Description

Taconic State Park consists of more then 6,000 acres of forested land with an extensive trail system that provides spectacular views of the Taconic , Berkshire and Catskill Mountain Ranges and the Hudson Valley . Rudd Pond is a 64 acre lake that offers swimming , fishing , rowboat, canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals .

Geography:

The Rudd Pond area of Taconic State Park is located in Millerton, NY along the Taconic Mountain Range in northeastern Dutchess County. The park shares a border with Massachusetts and Connecticut .

Recreation:

Besides camping and hiking other popular activities include swimming , picknicking , boating on Rudd Pond , bicycling and roller blading on the rail trail , fishing and hunting .

Rudd Pond has over 40 campsites for tents with several capable of accomodating small trailers .

Alerts and Important Information

The swimming area will be closed on weekdays all season (open weekends and holidays only).To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

CAMPSITES:

  • Reservation holder must be 18 years of age or older. Photo ID and reservation number required upon registration. Reservation holder must register prior to occupying any campsite. No campsite may be sublet.
  • Campers are asked to arrive by 9 p.m. on the first day of the reservation. If arriving after 9 p.m. please call the park to make other arrangements or risk losing the reservation.
  • Quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. are strictly enforced. The campground is closed to all persons that are not already registered at the park by 10 p.m.
  • Campers must have a tent to camp in tent area or have a trailer or RV to camp in trailer area.
  • Tent platforms will accommodate free standing tents up to 14 feet by 16 feet.
  • The maximum number of people per campsite is 6 including children.
  • All campsites have a picnic table and fireplace with cooking grate.

    PETS: Campers with dogs allowed on designated sites (23 thru 28) only. No more than two dogs per site. Must be attended to and on a leash at all times. Proof of rabies inoculation is required.

    From the Taconic Parkway: Exit at Pine Plains/Red Hook/Route 199. Take Route 199 East for 15 miles to Route 22. Turn left onto Route 22 North. Go 2 miles to Millerton. Turn right onto Route 44 East for ½ mile. Turn left onto Dutchess County Route 62. The park entrance will be 2 miles down, on the right side. Please note that RV's, trailers and commercial traffic are prohibited on the Taconic State Parkway. They are permitted on Route 22. 518-789-3059
