Description

Gilbert Lake State Park's lake and three ponds lie in wooded, hilly terrain in the foothills of the Catskills. In addition to cabins and campsites, the park has more than 12 miles of interconnecting trails for hikers, skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoers. Playgrounds and a disc golf course, as well as swimming, boating, and fishing are also featured.

Geography:

Gilbert Lake State Park is located in the foothills of the Catskills, north of Oneonta. Much of the park lies in the town of New Lisbon, in Otsego County.

Recreation:

Activities include biking, boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, disc golf, and a softball field. In the wintertime; snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

Facilities:

Park visitors enjoy the beach, the boats (the park rents boats and allows them to be launched near the boathouse), the accessible cabins and campsites (with showers and dumping stations), the disc golf course, the playground, the food concessions, and the picnic tables.

Nearby state parks include Glimmerglass State Park, Bowman Lake State Park, Oquaga Creek State Park, Chenango Valley State Park, and Hunt's Pond State Park. Other attractions in the vicinity include the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Soccer Hall of Fame, Farmers Museum, Howes Cavern, Hanford Mills Museum, and the Civilian Conservation Corps Exhibit and Nature Center.

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

  • Pets must be on 6 foot leash and must have proof of rabies vaccination.
  • Chainsaws, subletting of camping areas, rollerblades, firearms, and fireworks are not allowed in the park.
  • Firewood available at park, fires are allowed in designated areas only.
  • Cartop boats allowed for seasonal or weekly fees.
  • Campers must be on site before the park closes and visitors must leave by 10 p.m. Park closes when darkness falls.
  • Water is centrally located.
  • Quiet hours 10pm to 8am.
  • Generators may be used between the hours of 9am to 11am and 5pm to 9pm.
  • There is an overflow parking area available for 3rd vehicles for a fee.
  • Cabins are 7 day or 14 day reservations only during PEAK season. SATURDAY TO SATURDAY ONLY!

    Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.
