Boston Harbor Islands SP, MADescriptionThe Boston Harbor Islands are less than an hour's ferry ride from downtown Boston. This national park area has campsites on four of 30 harbor islands and is accessible to the public via passenger ferry service or private boat. Camping is available on Lovells, Peddocks, Grape and Bumpkin Islands and reservations are required. The four island campgrounds have no water for flush toilets (composting only), showers or drinking but offer a great primitive experience within sight of the Boston skyline. Interpretive tours and public safety is facilitated by at least two island rangers 24 hours a day. The Park's waterways are patrolled by local, state and federal enforcement / emergency response authorities. PLEASE NOTE: Peddocks Island is closed to the public until further notice. Only Grape, Bumpkin and Lovells offer camping in 2010. One night minimum stays are accepted. Services & Amenities:
Alerts and Important InformationPLEASE NOTE: Peddocks Island is closed to the public until further notice. Only Grape, Bumpkin and Lovells offer camping in 2010. IMPORTANT: Beginning in the 2010 camping season, MA State Parks prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities. Firewood will be available at the campground for a donation of $5.00 per bundle. Transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities may result in eviction, or substantial fine, or both. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all Massachusetts State Parks and Campgrounds. The reservation must be in the name of the primary occupant. To insure fairness for all MA customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 6-month Maximum Window cannot be changed or canceled until 18 days after the reservation was made. If you choose to cancel or change your reservation, a $10.00 fee will be charged. The reservation transaction charge is non-refundable. Cancellations made on the day of arrival must be made by contacting the campground and will result in the loss of the first night's camping use fee plus the $10.00 cancellation fee. Fees will be deducted from any refunds due or will be added to future reservations. Refunds of $5.00 or less cannot be processed. If you leave early, please check-out at the contact station. If you are unable to arrive on your scheduled arrival date, you must call the campground. Failure to contact the park by 8:00 A.M. the morning following your scheduled arrival date may result in your campsite being reassigned to another camper and forfeiture of all fees paid. Ferry service is available from the Fore River Shipyard on Rte. 3A Quincy MA and at Long Whar, Boston. Due to the economy and availability of overnight parking, campers are encouraged to depart from the Fore River Shipyard on Rte. 3A Quincy. Private boaters may off load passengers and equipment at the dock but must anchor off shore out of the main fairway. A dinghy is available on Grape and Bumpkin Islands for access to anchored vessels.
