Description

On a clear day, from the summit of Mount Diablo State Park visitors can see 35 of California's 58 counties. It is said that the view is surpassed only by that of 19,000-foot Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. With binoculars, Yosemite's Half Dome is even visible from Mt. Diablo. The park features exce hiking and rock climbing opportunities. The mountain was formed when a mass of underlying rock was gradually forced up through the earth's surface so, unlike other mountains, older and older rocks are encountered as you climb t mountain. The mountain was regarded as sacred to Native Americans.

Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in.

Mount Diablo State Park is experiencing drought conditions. As result of a severe water shortage, there are Porta-Pottie toilets and pit toilets and NO SHOWERS in the Juniper Campground. Water is available through water faucets located in the campground
  • .The Live Oak Campground restrooms are under construction. The Live Oak Campground has Porta-Pottie toilets and NO SHOWERS. Water is available through water faucets located in the campground
  • Park is reservable Year Round.
  • Incoming campers can register at either the Northgate entrance or the Southgate entrance.
  • No RV's over 20' in length
  • PARK GATES ARE LOCKED AT SUNSET, please plan your arrival time accordingly. Camping fee includes 1 vehicle; all extra vehicles will be charged a nightly fee at the Park.
  • ** RESERVATIONS Year Round**
  • Between May 15 and October 1 all campers should call the park @ 925.837.0904 one day prior to their arrival date to check on parks status, due to "extreme fire danger."
  • Dogs not recommended due to extensive restrictions.
  • Park gates are locked at sunset, please plan your arrival time accordingly.
  • Showers available ONLY in Juniper Campground; NO SHOWERS in group sites. All campgrounds have porta-pottie toilets or pit toilets.
  • To book a Group site you must have at least NINE occupants.

The park is located on Diablo Road, five miles east of I-680 in Danville. Take Highway 680 to Danville and get off at the Diablo Road exit. Then go 3 miles East to the Mt. Diablo Scenic Blvd.
The park can also be reached from Walnut Creek via Ygnacio Valley Road.
