Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park, a forested 3,000 acre park, is the site of California's largest hydraulic gold mine. Visitors can see huge cliffs carved by mighty streams of water, results of the goldmining technique of washing away entire mountains find the precious metal. Legal battles between mine owners and downstream farmers ended this method. The park also contains a 7,847 foot bedrock tunnel that serves as a drain. The visitor center has exhibits on life in the old mining town of North Bloomfield.

Park Kiosk Hours:

  • Hi Season: Daily 9:00 a.m.- 5 p.m.
  • Lo Season: Weekends 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

WARNING: A car may not be sufficient to protect your food and belongings, even if the car is locked up. Bears can break into cars if they smell anything of interest. Camp at your own risk! By choosing to enter or camp at Malakoff Diggins SP you assume the risk of personal injury or property damaged caused by bears.

  • Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park

  • North Bloomfield Cabins are Reservable Year Round.
  • Group Sites reservable 3/29-9/13/2009.
  • Groups closed when not on reservations..
  • Chute Hill family sites,.
  • Reservable 3/29-9/13/2009;
  • 1st come -1st served 9/14-11/30/2009
  • Closed to all camping 12/1/08 to 3/27/09.
  • To book a Group site you must have at least NINE occupants
