Henry W. Coe is primarily a wilderness park; hot and dry in the summer. Spring is the most popular time to visit the park, with it's fabulous display of wildflowers. There are numerous ponds and lakes in the park, ranging from 2 to 22 miles from the campground at Coe headquarters. You must hike or ride a bicycle or ride a horse to get to all ponds and lakes; there is no vehicle access to them. The closest fishing pond, Bass Pond, is a two mile hike from the campground and can dry up in the summer. Each Coe Ranch Entrance campsite has nearby drinking water, a picnic table, and a fire ring. There are vault toilets in the campground and flush toilets are available at the Visitor Center; there are no showers. Most sites have partial shade with either a Ramada (sun shade) or trees. There is one first-come first-serve campsite that you cannot reserve. If you want to trail camp in the park by backpacking or horse camping, you cannot make reservations. Those sites are on a first-come first serve basis. No Dogs, pets, fires, or charcoal fires are allowed in the backcountry. If you would like to use a hike-in group camp with 9 or more people, you can reserve a site at Manzanita Point or Poverty Flat. You are allowed a vehicle at Manzanita Point for camping equipment only to drive in once and then drive out once when you are leaving the campsite. Vehicles are not permitted at Poverty Flat group camp. There is no potable water available at Manzanita Point or Poverty Flat. There are no water spigots at Manzanita Point or Poverty Flat, so you have to bring your own water or purify available water. Each Manzanita Point Campsite is primitive, with picnic tables, a fire ring, and a nearby vault toilet.
