Enjoy a Corps site today!

As the nation's largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites you and your family to have a safe and enjoyable visit to one of the Corps' more than 400 lakes and more than 2,400 recreation sites nationwide. During your visit to these sites or the thousands of other federal lands and waters, we encourage you and your loved ones to always wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating or playing on or near the water. We need your help to reduce the number of water-related injuries and deaths. Visitor safety is the Corps' number one priority. We actively promote water and boater safety and education programs. Alerts and Important Information

The Thomson Causeway Recreation Area is anticipated to be going through some major renovations beginning as early as the fall of 2009. These improvements, which are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 include: the addition of a third shower building located near the River Birch Campground; renovation of the two existing shower facilities; a new multi-lane sewer dump station; and additional improvements.

To prepare for the construction work we are implementing the following policy changes for the 2010 recreation season:
  • There will be no camping reservations accepted for the 2010 season.
  • All campsites not affected by construction will be available on a first-come first-serve basis only.
  • Camping loops or the entire recreation area may close intermittently during the season.

While it is our intention to keep the recreation area open and accessible to the public to the greatest extent possible, the above limitations are needed to ensure the safety and security of our visitors, construction workers, and employees.

Please visit http://www.missriver.org often for project status updates or call the Thomson Ranger Office at 815-259-3628 for more information.
