SPRUCE MTN FIRE LOOKOUT TOWER (WY), WYDescriptionFormerly used to detect fires, the live-in Spruce Mountain Fire Lookout Tower rises 55 feet above a forested mountaintop in the Medicine Bow- Routt National Forests. The tower was renovated and opened to the public for overnight rental in 1977 under the Granger-Thye Act.The tower is at an elevation of 10,003 feet and visitors should be prepared for high altitude conditions. Summertime temperatures Average 70 degrees Fahrenheit, but can drop as low as 30 degrees at night or during thunderstorms. The tower is equipped with propane refrigerator, stove, and oven, heater, and lamps. There are two single beds, a table, and four chairs. A hoist (pulley and rope) for gear, broom and dustpan, manual for operating lights and stove, and a historic fire-finder are provided. The pit toilet is on the ground level. Services & Amenities:

The cabin is 55 feet above ground level, visitors to the tower do so at their own risk. Safety rules must be followed.
