SHENANGO REC AREA (PA), PA

Description

Shenango Recreation Area Campground is situated within the broad, flat, meandering valleys of Shenango River and Pymatuning Creek.

The lake provides an attractive setting for visitors who may choose to spend their day picnicking, camping, boating, or enjoying nature's beauty. Many fishing enthusiasts are attracted to the waters for the bass, walleye, muskellunge, and a variety of panfish that inhabit the lake. Deer, turkey, and other small game are also plentiful, and there are excellent opportunities to observe osprey and eagles in the area.

Shenango Recreation Area is approximately 7 miles northeast of Sharon, PA, and about 21 miles east of Youngstown, Ohio. Local attractions include Kidds Mill covered bridge, the remnants of the Erie Extension Canal, and the Great Blue Heron Sanctuary.

Sites 76, 78, 80, & 81 are Tent-for-Rent sites and are not to be rented to campers with their own equipment. Sites are provided with 9x12 cabin tents to sleep 6, 10x12 dining fly, 36-quart cooler, sleeping pads for 6, electric camp stove, picnic table, fire ring, and fire extinguisher.

Customers note that the maximum length vehicle indicated on the site description is actually the total length of the site. Keep this in mind when deciding if your unit and vehicles will fit on pad. All wheeled camping units and cars must fit on the gravel pad. Two vehicles will be permitted per site as long as they can fit on the gravel pad. A visitor fee will be charged for any vehicle changes to the site, after the original two permitted, are registered. Any vehicles parked in the Day-Use lots after 10:00 PM will be charged a visitor fee also. A visitor pass must be purchased at the Registration Station prior to parking in the day-use lots if parking after 10:00 PM is necessary.

One major camping unit allowed per site (large tent or wheeled unit.) Campers are permitted to place a second unit (tent), for minor dependent children, on their site, but the tent must be in their possession and added during the initial campsite registration process. Additional units may not be placed later. Note: A tenting unit refers to any tent that can stand alone.

Children under 13 in Pennsylvania are required to wear a Personal Flotation Device; all people on board boats less than 16 feet in length must wear a PFD. The lake is shallow and water levels generally drop throughout the summer, especially after the Fourth of July. This would depend on the amount of rainfall received.

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited within the project.
