SANDY COVE (OK), OK

Description

Sandy Cove is located at Canton Lake in northwest Oklahoma on the North Canadian River, 2 1/2 miles from the town of Canton.

Canton Lake plays host to a large number of campers, picnickers, boaters, fishermen, and hunters every year. It is one of the few places that offer these types of recreational opportunities in western Oklahoma. Canton Lake is known for its fishing opportunities, especially walleye fishing. The Canton Lake "Walleye Rodeo" is held each May and draws thousands of visitors to the area.

Nestled among a woodland of blackjack oak and post oak trees, the Sandy Cove campground lies at the north end of Canton Dam. The numerous trees in the park provide an excellent camping environment. Though none of the campsites are adjacent to the lake, Sandy Cove is a very popular destination. Visitor attractions at Sandy Cove include a large designated swimming beach area, a large picnic shelter with a private parking lot, a shower house, and electric hook-ups at all campsites.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations are only available April 15 - September 10.
This campground requires a 3 night minimum stay on holiday weekends for family sites.
The campground is open April 1-October 31, and sites are $16/night.
An attendant is on duty from April 1-September 10.
A self-deposit fee collection system is used in Sept. and Oct. when an attendant is not on duty.
A key must be picked up at the Sandy Cove Gatehouse to allow access to the day-use shelter.
A maximum of 2 camping units will be allowed per site. Only one wheeled camping-unit (motorhome, trailer, pop-up, etc.) will be allowed per site. At no time will the maximum number of camping units exceed 2.
Campsites only allow for 1 RV and 2 car parking.
Please register for the campsite during booth hours (1:00 pm - 10:00 pm).
There are no sewer or water site hook-ups at this campground.
Only one camping unit may hook up to the electricity.
There is to be 2 night minimum during Walleye Rodeo held each year in May starting Thursday after Mother's Day and ending on Sunday.

From Canton, OK go 1/2 mile west on Highway 51, turn north on Highway 58A and travel 2 miles. Take the right fork at the Y and continue on Highway 58A to the north end of the dam.
You will see the swimming area and campground on your left.
