Join our Mark Twain Lake Recycling Program by using a drop-off location in the Ray Behrens Recreation Area. This program was created utilizing a partnership with the Monroe City Sheltered Workshop and is open to public participation. A brown shed made from recycled materials will be located just south of the gate attendant house to accept recyclable materials. Acceptable materials include: cardboard, newspapers, plastic, magazines, paper, aluminum and any other metal materials. This program strives to reduce the burden of trash placement in our nations landfills on the environment and to encourage families to both recycle and to buy products made from recycled goods. As an environmentally conscious agency, the Corps encourages recycling to conserve energy and natural resources and reduce air and water pollution. The Monroe City Sheltered Workshop is a not for profit corporation providing dignified and meaningful employment for developmentally disabled adults specializing in recycling, parts inspection, industrial sanding, assembly work and custom pallet building. The Corps and Monroe City Sheltered Workshop envision this as an initial recycling pickup location in hopes of adding several more around the lake.
