PROSPECTOR (CO), CO

Description

Due to the pine beetle infestation and removal of hazard trees, there is little or no shade in the campground.

Located at an elevation of 9,000 feet, near Dillon Reservoir. Restrooms are provided. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and snow is possible. Roads and spurs are not paved. There is a supply area nearby. You should have no body contact with the reservoir. There is a campground host on site. Loops A, B, and C are first-come, first-served campsites. They are not available for reservations. Loop D is 100 yards from the shore of Lake Dillon. Only a few sites have a very limited view of the lake. Keystone, Dillon, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and Lake Dillon are nearby.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance.

  • 2 night minimum stay on weekends.
  • 3 night minimum stay on holidays.
Sites may be available on a first come - first served basis outside the reservation season.
Two vehicles included in the camping fee. Additional vehicles may be parked in overflow area near entrance station for $5/night fee. Please fill out an envelope available at entrance station and deposit extra vehicle fees at self-pay station.
Occupy site within 24 hours or forfeit site.
Golden Age/Access Passport holders must occupy the site where the site is reserved. Passport holders must present Golden Age/Access Passport on site or they will be required to pay the full fee required.
Firewood is available for sale from campground hosts.
There is no electricity/water/sewer site hook-ups at this campground.
All equipment must fit on the site pad. Vehicles park in developed areas only.

From I-70 take the Silverthorne exit 205. Travel east on Highway 6, approximately 4 miles to Swan Mountain Road. Turn right and travel for 2 miles to Prospector and Windy Point Campground sign. Take dirt road one mile to campground entrance.
