FIREWOOD ALERT!: Leave Your Firewood At Home! We need your help to protect our forests! A firewood quarantine has been established for much of the state of Virginia. In general, firewood can harbor insect pests under the bark and in the wood. The transport of infested firewood has been identified as a leading cause in the introduction of harmful forest insects into un-infested forest areas. The best way to prevent a new infestation of these invasive pests is to get your firewood AFTER arrival. Help us keep our parks pest free by leaving your firewood at home!

Description

Modoc Campground is 5 miles from the Thurmond Visitor Information Center Modoc Campground is a short 5 miles from the Thurmond Visitor Information and Dam. Within the campground, two peninsulas jut out into the lake, each Center and Dam.

A first-come-first serve picnic shelter is located in one small loop of the campground, nice for water front sites and beautiful, expansive views of the lake and meals with families and friends who camp together. Four shower facilities serve the 49 sites, as well as a launching ramp, playground and hiking trail. Alerts and Important Information

Sites accommodate two tents or a RV and a tent. Pets are allowed if penned or leashed. Public use of alcohol is prohibited. Gates open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m. Park has been renovated and sites have been renumbered please call the campground if you are looking for a specific site.

Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. 2-night minimum stay on weekends and 3-night minimum stay on holidays.

  • Gates open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m.
  • Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and checkout time is 2:00 p.m.
  • Late checkouts may result in the charge of an additional night's camping fee.
  • Visitor hours end at 9:30 p.m.
  • Maximum 4 vehicles per site.
  • Scooters, ATV's and golf carts are prohibited. Persons with disabilites may make special arrangements at the Visitor's Center.
  • No alcohol.

If you do not arrive within 24 hours of check-in time and date, you will be charged $20.00 plus first night's use fees.
Think Water Safety! Visitors are encouraged to wear life jackets at all times while on or around the water. Swimmers should use designated swim areas and never swim alone.
