Description

Enjoy the beauty and peacefulness that surrounds the lake. Many visitors to the area tour the birthplace of world-famous humorist and writer Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) in the nearby state park, or tour the shops and relive the tales of Mark Twain in the nearby town of Hannibal, Missouri.

The Indian Creek Recreation Area at Mark Twain Lake provides four areas: public boat ramp, group camp, day-use area, and the campground. The group camp provides 25 electric campsites, 12 tent sites, group shelter, restroom, shower and playground. The Day-Use Area provides group shelter, picnic sites, and playground. The campground offers 190 campsites, 20 primitive hike-in campsites, showers, restrooms, playgrounds, fish cleaning station, boat ramp, beach, hiking trails, and pay phone.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance for shelters/group campsites and 1 day in advance for individual campsites. This campground requires a 2 night minimum stay on weekends and a 3 night minimum stay on holiday weekends which includes Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. The day use area is open April 16 - October 4, 2010.

Indian Creek campground has 4 camploops: Sentry Ridge, Night Hawk, Fox, and Eagle Point.


  • The non-reservable campsites in Sentry Ridge camploop are available April 2 - November 22, 2009.
  • The non-reservable campsites in Nighthawk camploop are available April 16 - September 6, 2010.
  • The reservable campsites in Fox camploop are available April 16 - September 6, 2010.
  • The reservable campsites in Eagle Point camploop are available April 23 - September 6, 2010.

The Beach is open May 7 - September 6, 2010 for registered campers of the Indian Creek Recreation Area only.

The group area is open April 16 - September 6, 2010 for reservations only. A minimum of 3 sites is required. The Group Use Area Group Shelter is available for campers in the group use area only and the reservation fee is $30.

The Hike-In primitive sites are available May 14 - September 6, 2010.

The West boat ramp is open year round. A day use fee is charged for the use of the boat ramp. Annual Day Use Passes are available by contacting the Mark Twain Lake Project Office, which is open year round.
