HELM BAY CABIN (AK), AK

Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, wood stove for heat & Outside toilet.It does not have mattress or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags,pads, cook stoves,cooking gear and food. The person holding the reservation for this cabin must be at least 18 years of age, and must be a member of the party using the cabin. There are NO discounts for Golden Age/Passport for Alaska Cabin rentals Sometimes referred to as "Big" Helm Bay Cabin. Please do not confuse this with Helm Creek Cabin,located on the otherside of the Bay. Floating dock is not connected to the shore.wildlife in the area include deer, mountain goat, black and brown bear and seals. Fishing for salmon, halibut and snapper. 16' x 20' three room Pan-Abode cabin, four single, two double bunks, woodstove, outhouse, floating dock. Cabin is located at sea level,high beach at low tide,views of second growth forest from the cabin. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1- September 30 and a maximum stay of consecutive nights per party October 1-April 30

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Same day reservations allowed for this cabin. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator, such as an outfitter or guide, is NOT allowed. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. Water should be treated or boiled prior to drinking. All garbage and food must be packed out.

Approximately 24 miles from Ketchikan or 12 miles from Clover Pass area located on west end of Helm Bay. Accessible by floatplane or by boat with a state maintained floating dock near cabin. Refer to Ketchikan C-6.
