HAMMA HAMMA CABIN (WA), WA

Description

Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937, the Hamma Hamma Cabin is nationally recognized for the skill and craftsmanship that went into the construction of this unique building. Facilities include: two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom and flush toilet, outside picnic area with table, fire ring and pedestal barbecue stand. The only water at the cabin is for the flush toilet. There is no electricity. All appliances are propane operated and include a heater, hot water heater, cook range, refrigerator and lights. Propane is furnished. Beds include a queen, twin bunk beds, a twin bed and a futon couch that folds down to a full bed. Bed, bath and kitchen linens are not provided. The cabin is also equipped with chairs, a dining table, dishes, pots, pans, silverware and utensils.

Located in the Hamma Hamma River Drainage, the cabin has nearby access to the Brothers and Mt. Skokomish Wilderness, Hood Canal and Olympic National Park. Hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, hunting, river walks and a National Recreation Trail (Lena Lake Trail) are available in the area.

Alerts and Important Information

Entry to the cabin is by a key stored in a lock box. The required combination to gain access to the key pickup box MUST be obtained by calling the Hood Canal Ranger Station in Quilcene (360) 765-2200. Office hours are 8:00 AM. to 4:30 PM. Monday through Friday. The office is closed on holidays. There is a one day reservation window during peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and a four day reservation window during the non-peak season (mid-December to March).

The cabin is available for rent year round. Automobile access may be limited in the winter months (usually mid Dec. to March), and vehicles may not be able to reach the cabin. Have your vehicle in good operating condition and carry extra food, clothing, a shovel, chains and a bag of sand.

The maximum cabin capacity is 6 people, although provisions can be made for extra people on a case by case basis with approval by the District Ranger. An extra $5.00 per person per night will be charged with payment and approval through the Quilcene Office. No large groups.

There is no potable water at this site. Visitors must bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking and washing.

Please bring your own garbage bags. This is a Pack it in, Pack it out site.

No pets are allowed.

Please bring sleeping bags/bedding, as well as a flashlight or lantern for emergencies, first aid kit, washcloths and towels, and dish soap.

The nearest phone is 6.5 miles away at the Eldon Store. All Forest Service Cabin Rentals are No Smoking facilities. Please contact the Ranger District prior to arriving at the cabin/lookout rental to check on any restrictions or conditions, such as fire closures, road, weather or storms, etc., that may affect the quality of your visit.

Hamma Hamma Cabin is located on the eastside of the Olympic Peninsula (near Hood Canal) in Washington State. Travel approximately 14 miles north of Hoodsport on US Hwy 101 to Hamma Hamma Recreation Area, turn west onto the Hamma Hamma River Rd. (Forest Service Road # 25). Drive 6 miles to the entrance road on the right side of the road. After the entrance road, 300 feet up the road, there will be a locked gate. Your colored key will open the lock on the gate. The cabin is around the corner, 300 feet beyond the gate.
