As the nation's largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites you and your family to have a safe and enjoyable visit to one of the Corps' more than 400 lakes and more than 2,400 recreation sites nationwide. During your visit to these sites or the thousands of other federal lands and waters, we encourage you and your loved ones to always wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating or playing on or near the water. We need your help to reduce the number of water-related injuries and deaths. Visitor safety is the Corps' number one priority. We actively promote water and boater safety and education programs. CHERRY GLEN CAMPGROUND (IA), IADescriptionCherry Glen Campground is located on the 26,000 acre Saylorville Lake project, which stretches for over 50 miles up the Des Moines River Valley. Cherry Glen, our oldest and most popular campground, has 125 sites nestled together on a compact 13-acre wooded ridge. Visiting with family and friends while relaxing in the shade of one of the campground's many trees is a popular pastime. For the more adventuresome, the adjacent boatramp makes it easy to go from camping to boating on the 6000 acre lake in just minutes. A wide variety of activities and facilities are available within the campground, including interpretive programs, group picnic shelters, playgrounds, baseball diamond and volleyball standards, boat launching, sailing, skiing, wind surfing, and fishing. The 24-mile paved multi-purpose Neal Smith Trail runs from Des Moines to Big Creek State Park, and connects the campground to all recreation areas on the east side of the lake. It is designated as a National Recreation Trail (no motor vehicles allowed) and is used for biking, hiking, jogging, walking, and in-line skating.
