CASCADE CREEK CABIN (AK), AK

Description

Click here for more cabin information and maps.

The Cascade Creek Cabin is located on the mainland in Thomas Bay, south of Cascade Creek and east of Spray Island. It is located at the edge of a second growth spruce-hemlock forest along a gravel beach, near the mouth of Cascade Creek. The beach fringe in front of the cabin is flat. Forested slopes directly behind the cabin become steeper with elevation, eventually rising to Cosmos Peak at 5000 feet. The trail connects to Falls Lake and Swan Lake. This is a hunter-style cabin with 4 single wooden bunks, an oilstove and a woodstove for heat, table, benches, and an outhouse. It has no mattresses, cookstove, or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags, pads, cookstove, cooking gear, and food. Bring #1 heating oil for the oilstove. Firewood is generally provided, but not guaranteed. A broom, dustpan, axe, and splitting maul are generally provided, but may be missing or damaged. Please report damaged items to the Petersburg Ranger District. The Cascade Creek Trail begins near the cabin and offers an array of hiking experiences. The trail is moderate for the first mile, then gains elevation and becomes more challenging. The trail provides access to waterfalls, a whitewater canyon, pristine lakes, and alpine areas. Popular activities for cabin visitors include hiking, fishing, boating to Baird Glacier and Scenery Cove, wildlife viewing, berry-picking, and hunting. For more information, call the Petersburg Ranger District at 907-772-3871.

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.
