BARKER RECREATION AREA (UT), UT

Description

Barker Recreation Area is located in an aspen-spruce forest above 9,000 feet in elevation. The area offers a campground with 13 individual campsites, a day use area adjacent to Upper Barker Reservoir and the group sites: Old Lady Young (capacity 100), Porter Equestrian (capacity 35), and Gates (capacity 35). Two small fishing lakes permit non-motorized boat access. Seven other back country fishing lakes can be accessed by the many hiking trails in the area, among them the Great Western Trail. Water hookups are not available at any of the sites in the area. Drinking water spigots are available within 100 feet of every campsite.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations must be made at least 7 days in advance. No all-terrain vehicles allowed in camping areas except along the main road. No camping permitted in the day use area. A fee for a 2nd vehicle will be collected at the campground. Motorized boats are not allowed on the lakes. Access for non-motorized boats is available at Upper Barker. road. Barker Recreation Area can be accessed by driving 2.5 miles west of Escalante on Hwy 12, then turning right at the North Creek Lakes sign and right again Barker CG sign (Forest Service Road 149). Drive approximately 16 miles on rd 149 to the campground. Road 149), and driving approximately 16 miles on a gravelled mountain road.
