Description

Click here for more cabin information and maps.

The Breiland Slough Cabin is located on Kupreanof Island, on the west side of Duncan Canal, south of Castle Island. It is an A-frame cabin with two double bunks and a sleeping loft, table, benches, oil stove for heat only, and an outhouse. It has no mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags, pads, cookstove, cooking gear, food, and #1 heating oil for the stove. The nearest water source is a small stream 1/4 mile south of the cabin. The cabin is located on a small peninsula with a gravel beach in front, and grass flats ideal for waterfowl viewing in back of the cabin. The surrounding terrain is second growth forest and grass flats. The beach offers scenic views of the Castle Islands to the north. Visitors enjoy boating, exploring nearby islands, fishing, wildlife viewing, and hunting. Wildlife in the area include grouse, waterfowl, black bear, and marine mammals. Fishers can catch Coho salmon in front of the cabin in mid-August. For more information, call the Petersburg Ranger District at 907-772-3871.

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.
