BIG CREEK LAKES CAMPGROUND (CO), CODescriptionLocated thirty-five miles northwest of the town of Walden, Colorado. Campground is adjacent to Big Creek Lake. Telephone is 26 miles away. Campground host is on the site. Moose in the area. Campground has 54 units. This campground offers boating and fishing on Colorados second largest natural lake, hiking in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness and ATV trails nearby.Campsites 46-54 will be closed for the 2009 season. This area is closed pending logging operations of dead trees that are standing and lying on the ground in the campsites causing unsafe conditions. Many trees were cut down in 2008. The campground looks different but there are still trees left near each campsite. The Red Elephant/Seven Lakes Trail may be closed at times throughout the 2009 season to remove hazardous trees along the trail. The Forest Service will do their best to accommodate backpackers needing to get through on the trail so dont rule this area out as an option this summer. Additional Campsites will be available for reservations starting in 2008. They are 23, 24, 26, 29 and 33. Services & Amenities:
