WEST FORK ROCK CREEK CABIN (MT), MTDescriptionWest Fork Cabin is a primitive one-room cabin equipped with two bunkbeds with mattresses to sleep four (4) people. It has a wood stove for heat, firewood is provided. Water is available from a hand pump well approx 100 yards west of the cabin. A pit toilet is located a short distance north of the cabin. There are six structures on the site, which was once used as a Forest Service Guard Station and later as a youth camp. Only the western-most of the two small cabins at the south end has been restored and is available for rentals. Stock may be grazed in the fenced area around the cabins. The non-refundable fee is $20.00 per night. Any changes to scheduled dates may be assessed an additional fee by NRRS. The cabin is available year-round. There is no electricty/sewer. Potential Exposure to Hantavirus due to presence of mouse droppings. Hay and Feed must be certified weed free. West Fork Cabin is located in the west half of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest approximately a 45 minute drive southwest of Philipsburg, Montana on paved State Highway 38. This road leads to the nearby scenic Skalkaho Pass and to Skalkaho Falls in the Bitterroot National Forest to the west, however, the road may be closed through traffic in the winter. Check with the Pintler Ranger District at 406-859-3211 for local road conditions, hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday to Friday. Cabin can only be reserved up to 180 days in advance. (Latitude, Longitude): 46.22917, -113.57083 From Philipsburg, MT, drive approx. 6.3 miles south towards Anaconda on Montana Hwy 1 to its junction with the Skalkaho Hwy 38. Turn right on Hwy 38 and travel west for approx. 13 miles. The entrance to the West Fork Cabin is on your left behind a locked gate, which uses the same combo at the cabin itself. Parking is available at the cabin, and there is enough room to maneuver large vehicles/trailers. Although accessed by a paved state highway, the entrance road to the cabin is not plowed during the winter. From December through March or April, you may need to park in the provided parking area to the right of the highway and walk approx. 200 yrds to the cabin.
