WISHON CABIN (CA), CA

Description

Enjoy a mountain cabin get-away year-round. Tucked away in a setting of majestic oaks and pines, the Wishon Cabin is a hidden gem. The cabin was originally built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC's) and was used by the Forest Service to house fire patrol, recreation workers, and other personnel. The cabin is available to rent all year.

Wishon Cabin is located in the Giant Sequoia National Monument, Sequoia National Forest. The Cabin is located at the entrance to the Wishon Campground and is a perfect setting to share with family or friends. It is a short walk to the Tule River and also to the trailhead for the Doyle Trail. Popular activities in the immediate area include hiking and fishing. Nearby activities include horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, hunting and more. Giant Sequoia groves are within a hour drive.

The cabin has electricity, hot and cold running water, and a furnace for the cooler seasons. It has one bedroom equipped with a queen bed, and a second bedroom equipped with two twin beds. The living room has a futon (sleeps 2), a couch, a dining table and 6 chairs. It also has a fully equipped kitchen including a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes and utensils, and a small table. It has a bathroom including a flush toilet and a tub-shower. Outside the cabin are a picnic table and a campfire ring. Cabin users should provide: linens, pillows, blankets, towels, toiletries, food, and trash bags. Suggested additional items include toilet paper, paper towels, camp chairs, insect repellent, dish towels, and a camera!

Because the cabin is located at the 3,900 foot elevation, visitors need to be prepared for a wide variety of weather. Warm afternoons, chilly nights, and afternoon thunderstorms can all happen on the same visit. It is also not unusual to have a dusting of snow during the fall and winter months. Remember to bring a jacket!

Wishon Cabin is a great place to stay and easy to access - all on paved roads. The cabin's proximity to the campground has a bonus in that additional friends and family members can choose to rent campsites. Refer to Wishon (Sequoia National Forest) under camping sites at www.recreation.gov.
