WINSTANLEY LAKE CABIN (AK), AK

Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, wood stove for heat and an outhouse. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. The person holding the reservation for this cabin must be at least 18 years of age, and must be a member of the party using the cabin. There are NO discounts for Golden Age or Golden Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Mooring buoy located at saltwater trailhead Cabin is surrounded by large old-growth spruce, hemlock and cedar. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for anyone reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 Brown bear territory, take necessary precautions All garbage and food must packed out. Cabin is accessible by skiff and trail. A skiff provided at the cabin.

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Same day reservations are allowed for this cabin. This is the Winstanley Lake Cabin, not the cabin on Winstanley Island. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator, such as an outfitter or guide, is NOT allowed. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. In fall, winter, and early spring, the cabin may be inaccessible due to frozen lake surface (floatplanes cannot land). Please contact the local Forest Service Ranger District office for information prior to making reservations during these periods Water should be treated or boiled prior to drinking. All garbage and food must be packed out.

Approximately 33 air miles northeast of Ketchikan on the mainland, east of Winstanley Island. Accessible by floatplane or boat. Refer to USGS Ketchikan B-3. This cabin is in a designated Wilderness area, and access by helicopter is illegal.
