Alerts and Important Information

Entry to the lookout is by combination lock. Please call 541-782-2283, 5 days prior to your arrival to obtain the combination for the entrance lock. This is a very rustic lookout - there are no amenities.

CAUTION: This is a high wind/storm area.

You must walk, snowshoe or ski approximately 6-10 miles to reach this lookout. Some route segments are exposed ridge tops and subject to strong winds and icy snow conditions.

This lookout is remote at an elevation of 5800 feet about sea level. Winter access can range from moderate to difficult. Renters must plan a full day to ski, snowshoe to the cabin. Weather conditions can change dramatically over a weekend. Care must be used in deciding where to leave your vehicle. The trip can be very arduous, especially with a heavy snow pack and could take an entire day.

Come prepared for driving in winter conditions and carry tire chains and shovel along with other essentials. Check the forecast before you begin your journey. If a low-elevation storm is predicted, you will want to park your vehicle, facing downhill, before reaching the snow zone. If you get stuck in the snow, it is your responsibility to arrange to get towed out.

There is no potable water at this site. Visitors must bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking and washing.

Please bring your own garbage bags and clean the facility before you leave. This is a "Pack it in, Pack it out" site.

Please bring sleeping bags/bedding, as well as a flashlight or lantern for emergencies, first aid kit, washcloths, towels, and dish soap.

All Forest Service Cabin Rentals are No Smoking facilities. No open flames are allowed in the cabin.

Please contact the Ranger District prior to arriving at the cabin/lookout rental to check on any restrictions or conditions, such as fire or road closures, weather or storms, etc., that may affect the quality of your visit.
