As the nation's largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites you and your family to have a safe and enjoyable visit to one of the Corps' more than 400 lakes and more than 2,400 recreation sites nationwide. During your visit to these sites or the thousands of other federal lands and waters, we encourage you and your loved ones to always wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating or playing on or near the water. We need your help to reduce the number of water-related injuries and deaths. Visitor safety is the Corps' number one priority. We actively promote water and boater safety and education programs. WALLASHUCK (IA), IADescriptionWallashuck Campground is located on Lake Red Rock, Iowa's largest lake, just 10 minutes from Pella, known for its Dutch heritage, and 15 minutes from Knoxville, Sprintcar Capital of the World. Activities include shoreline fishing, access to paved hiking/biking trail, and campground programs at amphitheater weekends Memorial Day through Labor Day. White pelicans migrate through lake area every spring and fall, and large numbers of bald eagles can be observed during winter months (Nov.-Mar). Large numbers of waterfowl migrate through the lake every spring and fall. Large numbers of whitetail deer can be seen throughout the lake area and river otters are seen occasionally along the shoreline. At Wallashuck campground, hardwood forests with a lake view are on the south side of the campground. It is an hour's drive to Des Moines, Iowa's capital, which has shopping malls, museums, zoo and many other attractions.
