TWIN LAKES CABIN (MT), MT

Description

This facility is available for rental October 18th to MAR 31 yearly

The cabin is located at the base of Squaw and Jumbo Mountains on the shore of Twin Lakes. Winter recreationists enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and exploring the area around the cabin here in the winter. The cabin was built in the 1920's to provide field quarters for trail crews, smoke chasers, timber cruisers or grazing inspectors. The cabin is a one room wood building. It has two beds with mattresses, 2 single folding cots, a wood-burning stove and a propane cook stove. Visitors must provide their own bedding. The cabin is equipped with a table, cooking and eating utensils, axe, shovel, bucket, and cleaning gear. The cabin has no electricity or running water. There is an outdoor toilet. Firewood is provided. Rodents are in the area, so hantavirus precautions need to be followed.

Alerts and Important Information

Visitors should plan to bring their own bedding, food, toilet paper, small propane canisters or candles, dishtowels, compass and maps, flashlight, garbage bags, and matches. Please bring your own drinking water. Please bring garbage bags. This facility is Pack it in. Pack it out. Bears frequent the area, all food must be kept in approved containers. We recommend that you call the day before you plan to use the cabin to inquire about existing and projected weater conditions. Must be 18 years or older to rent. Reservation limited to 3 day stay limit. Cabin is locked, remember to bring combination to access. There is no cell phone coverage in the Big Hole Valley and surrounding area Please call the district office at 406-689-3243 prior to your arrival to confirm your combination. Cabin can only be reserved up to 180 days in advance.

During fall months, before the snow closes the road, the cabin is accessible by vehicle.

26 miles southwest of Wisdom, Montana. The cabin is located approximately 26 miles Wisdom. Take Highway 278 and head south from Wisdom about 6 1/2 miles until you reach Road #945. Drive to the end of the plowed road. Follow Road #945 to Road #183, from there it is approximately 12 miles to the cabin. The route is marked with Orange diamonds. The cabin is located at the base of Squaw and Jumbo Mountains on the shore of Twin Lakes.
