Tollgate Campground is located on the Mt Hood National Forest, approximately 32 miles southeast of Portland. The campground sits on the north bank of the Zigzag River, just east of the community of Rhododendron.
Tollgate Campground was originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and some historic features, such as rock fireplaces and a reconstructed picnic shelter still remain. The Pioneer Bridle Trail passes through the campground. A replica of the Barlow Trail Tollgate (operated from 1879 to 1915) is just east of the campground. Elevation: 3700 feet.

Tollgate Campground has piped water and vault toilets. This campground allows easy access to Mt Hood and many recreational opportunities.

Elevation: 2100 feet.

Alerts and Important Information

  • Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance.
  • This campground has first-come, first-serve sites.
  • No ATVs or OHVs allowed.
  • Pets must be on a leash.
  • Fires in fire circles only.
  • Quiet hours are 10:00 pm - 6:00 am.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks in the campground.
  • Vehicles must be parked on the spur.
  • Campground must be occupied the first night.
  • Camping fee covers one vehicle per single site. An extra vehicle fee of 50% of a single site fee will be collected at the campground. An extra vehicle is any vehicle (motorhome, trailer or passenger vehicle) that is not towed in with the first vehicle.
  • PICNIC SHELTER:
    Cost: $45.00 Capacity: 30 0ccupants
    Parking for ten vehicles included in the reservation fee. Additional parking available in upper day use area. Shelter closes at 9:pm.
