SPRUCE KNOB LAKE (WV), WV

Description

Located near Spruce Knob, the highest peak in West Virginia, there are plenty of activities for the summer months. An observation tower on top of the peak lets you glimpse the entire area. There is over 60 miles of hiking trails in the surrounding woods. Fishing is also a popular activity at Spruce Knob Lake and the surrounding streams. Due to its location, this beautiful area may experience cold fogs and strong winds year around. The nearby Gatewood group area may be available for large group use.

Reservations for Spruce Knob can be made mid-April through mid-October. They can be made up to 6 months in advance but they must be made at least 4 days prior to your intended arrival date. You can reserve the group sites up to one year in advance.

From Riverton, wv, take US Route 33 south 2 miles to Briery Gap Road (Country Road 33/4). Turn right onto Briery Gap Road. Go 2 miles to Forest Road 112, turn left and continue for 13.5 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road and the campground is 1/2 miles on the right.

From Elkins, WV, take US Route 33 to State Route 29, which is one mile west of Harman. Turn right onto SR 29, go south 18.6 miles and tum left onto Forest Road 1. Follow FR 1 for 2.5 miles.
