SCHNAUS CABIN (MT), MT

Description

Schnaus cabin is located 42 miles north of Columbia Falls, MT on the North Fork Road north of Polebridge. Schnaus cabin sits in the Whitefish Range of the Rocky Mountains. Schnaus has rustic accomodations including propane cook stove,heater, lights, wood stove, and vault toilet. Schnaus's party size is twelve with two double beds and a bunk bed on the main floor and twin beds in the loft. Please pack out what you brought including your garbage. Grizzly Bears live in the area; store your food, beverages, coolers, and garbage inside the cabin. Pets are not allowed at Schnaus. Polebridge Merchentile is located seven miles south of Schnaus and has limited supplies. Commercial use of the cabins is prohibited (outfitter guides, groups or organizations with compensated leaders/chaperones)

Extremely cold temperatures have caused frozen pipes this winter; please use wash basin for gray water, then dump down outhouse vault.

Grizzly bears live in the area, store your food, beverages, coolers, and garbage inside the cabin. Pets and livestock are not allowed at the lookout. Please Pack it in. Pack it out. including garbage. Reservations can be made one day in advance and there is a three night maximum stay limit. Clean the cabin when you leave. Rental fee is $50 per night. Refunds will not be given due to inclement weather, road conditions, too much or little snow, etc. Check in and out time is 2pm. The combination to the cabin will be on your letter of confirmation from NRRS. Cabin can only be reserved up to 180 days in advance.
Please help conserve propane by minimizing the lights you have on and keeping the thermostat to 55 when you are not in the cabin. The firewood provided is for heat only; please do not deplete the supply by using it for outside fires. Please refer to the over the snow motor vehicle use maps for designated snowmobile routes and play areas.

Schnaus is located 42 miles north of Columbia Falls, MT on the North Fork Road (County Road #486). To find the North Fork Road take Nucleus Avenue north through Columbia Falls, turn east on Railroad Street at the stop sign, this becomes the North Fork Road as it travels over the railroad overpass. Continue north 42 miles on this gravel road to the intersection with Forest Road 10372 see sign for Schnaus Cabin, turn east, travel .3 miles turn north to Schnaus Cabin, follow the signs. Schnaus is seven miles north of the town of Polebridge. The North Fork Road is gravel, rough in spots, and intermittently plowed during the winter months. 4 wheel drive and chains are recommended during the winter.
