RIO GRANDE VILLAGE (BIG BEND) (TX), TX

Description

Located within a large grove of cottonwood trees on the banks of the famous Rio Grande River, the Rio Grande Village Campground is by far one of the most popular campgrounds in Big Bend National Park, especially for those traveling in large recreational vehicles. Another factor is the campground's popularity is its location to two of the key areas in the park - Boquillas Canyon and the Hot Springs - as well as being situated close to the Old Ore Road and the River Road, two of the busiest backcountry roads in Big Bend. These factors as well as the welcome shade from all those cottonwood trees make Rio Grande Village Campground irresistible to campers from all over.

The campground's 100 sites range in size from small, tent-sized ones to pull-through sites large enough to handle a 40' motor home, although there are no hook-ups available in the campground. Each site is provided with a picnic table, charcoal grill (wood fires are NOT permitted in the park), and bear-proof food storage containers. Some sites are also furnished with shade structures called ramadas. All campsites are within easy walking distance to water spigots and restrooms, and for those camping in motor homes and travel trailers, a dump station is proficed at the campground's entrance. Generator use is limited to between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm, and a no-generator area is available for those wishing to avoid the noise. Showers and laundry facilities may be found at the Rio Grande Village Store just outside the entrance to the campground.

Rio Grande Village Campground's campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis for most of the year, however from November 15 to April 15, there are 43 sites that are available by reservation. These sites may be reserved by contacting recreation.gov online or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Campsites are $14 per night, but if using the reservation system, a small processing fee will be charged.

It is important to note that the grassy areas within the campground are subject to flooding due to flood irrigation, and that the area around tents may be flooded. All tents in the campground must be set up on the tent pads.
