Enjoy the best of two worlds - camping and comfort! Sleep among the tall pines, listen to the mountain breeze, and watch the beautiful wildlife while also having a soft bed, a comfy kitchen and a warm shower! The Quaking Aspen Cabin is a treasure in time. The cabin was originally built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC's) and was used by the Forest Service to house fire patrol, recreation workers, and other personnel. Located just inside Quaking Aspen Campground, the cabin is available to rent from mid May through mid October.

Quaking Aspen Campground is located in the Giant Sequoia National Monument, and the cabin is just a few miles from several groves of Giant Sequoias. Other nearby points of interest include the Needles Lookout, Dome Rock, and Trail of 100 Giants. Nearby activities include horseback riding (day rides from the Golden Trout Wilderness Packtrains), mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, hunting, fishing, OHV riding and more. There is also an amphitheater near the cabin where interpretive programs hosted by the Forest Service are held periodically during the summer.

The cabin has electricity, hot and cold running water, and a furnace for the cool summer nights. It has one bedroom - equipped with a queen size bed and a bunk bed. The living room has a futon (sleeps 2), a couch, a dining table and 6 chairs. It also has a fully equipped kitchen including a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes and utensils, and a small table. It has a bathroom including a flush toilet and a tub-shower. Outside the cabin are a picnic table and a campfire ring. Cabin users should provide: linens, pillows, blankets, towels, toiletries, food and trash bags. Suggested additional items include toilet paper, paper towels, camp chairs, insect repellent, dish towels, and a camera.

Because the cabin is located at the 7,000 foot elevation, visitors need to be prepared for a wide variety of weather. Warm afternoons, chilly nights, and afternoon thunderstorms can all happen on the same visit. It is also not unusual to have an early fall dusting of snow before the cabin closes for the season. Remember to a bring a jacket!

Quaking Aspen Cabin is a delightful place to stay and perfect for families and friends to build memories. The cabin's proximity to the campground has a bonus in that additional friends and family members can choose to rent campsites. Beginning in mid-June 2009- the Giant Sequoia Mercantile will also be offering a variety of camping equipment and supplies making it the perfect place to stop for those last minute items you may have left at home.

A second Giant Sequoia Mercantile is now open at 13247 Sierra Way in Kernville, CA - the southern gateway to the Giant Sequoia National Monument.
