As the nation's largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites you and your family to have a safe and enjoyable visit to one of the Corps' more than 400 lakes and more than 2,400 recreation sites nationwide. During your visit to these sites or the thousands of other federal lands and waters, we encourage you and your loved ones to always wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating or playing on or near the water. We need your help to reduce the number of water-related injuries and deaths. Visitor safety is the Corps' number one priority. We actively promote water and boater safety and education programs. PRIEST RIVER (ID), ID

Description

Priest River Recreation Area is located on the banks of the Priest River just upstream from where it flows into the Pend Oreille (pond o'ray) River. The Priest River Wildlife area is adjacent to this park offering wonderful opportunities for bird watching and walking the dogs. Area attractions include the Albeni Falls Project Visitor Center with exhibits on history and natural history. In addition, there are tours of the Albeni Falls Dam which are given daily Memorial Day to Labor Day from the Visitor Center 2 mi E of Newport, Wa.

The campground offers 20 campsites (no-hookups). Other amenities include a dump station, hot showers, a boat ramp, pay phone, a playground, a shelter, a baseball field and a swimming beach. The picnic shelter may be reserved by calling Albeni Falls Dams at (208) 437-3133.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. Campers with reservations must check-in at the Park Office upon arrival. This campground has first-come, first-served sites. You may only stay a total of 14 days in any 30-day period at Albeni Falls Dam (includes: Priest River, Riley Creek, Springy Point and Albeni Cove Recreation Areas).

  • This campground is also known as the Mudhole.
  • No vehicle entry after 10:00 p.m.
  • This campground is close to Hwy 2 and is subject to road noise.
  • Entrance gate locks at 10:00 p.m. and reopens at 7:00 a.m.
  • Please register for the campsite during booth hours 7:00-9:00 p.m.
  • A fee for extra vehicles will be collected at the campground.
  • No unlicensed motorized vehicles allowed.

Special Events:
Priest River Timber Day runs annually on the last Saturday of July.

Priest River Recreation Area is one mile East of the town of Priest River on Highway 2. After the river it will be the first road on the right. The park is also known as the "Mudhole".
