PAWNEE (CO), CODescriptionCampground is 5 miles west of Ward, Colorado, within the Brainard Lake Recreation Area. It is adjacent to Brainard Lake and the Indian Peak Wilderness Area, at an elevation of 10,350 feet, in a spruce and fir forest. Summer features warm days and cool pleasant nights. Afternoon rain is common. Nederland, 14 miles south, has full services including phone, groceries, restaurants, gas, hardware store, bank and post office. Popular activities include bicycling (outside the wilderness), fishing, backpacking and hiking. There are numerous wilderness trails. Limited rockclimbing and snowskiing opportunities are possible when the weather cooperates. Two trailheads lead into the backcountry and over the Continental Divide. Firewood is for sale in the campground.Services & Amenities:

Take Colorado Highway 119 (Canyon Blvd) for 22 miles to Nederland, and north on Colorado Highway 72 to Ward. Turn left at sign. Five miles to Brainard Lake Recreation Area.
