PANGUITCH LAKE (UT), UT

Description

Panguitch Lake Campground is located 14 miles southwest of Panguitch, Utah in a ponderosa pine forest about 1/4 mile from the lake at an elevation of 8,400 feet. Panguitch Lake offers great fishing for brook, cutthroat, brown, and some of the largest rainbow trout in Utah. Deer and elk are often seen around the lake, and canoeing is popular on this small, quiet body of water. Popular activities include hiking, biking, horseback riding, ATV/OHV riding, hunting, fishing, canoeing, and nature study. The Panguitch Lake ATV Trail System keeps riders entertained on its 100+ miles of trails. Other attractions nearby include Bryce Canyon National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, and Zion National Park.

The campground has units on either side of the highway. The North Unit is the larger of the two, with 39 single sites, eight double sites, and three group sites. This unit has paved roads and spurs, flush toilets, volleyball poles (you must provide your own net and ball), horseshoe pits, and an amphitheater with some weekend programs and church services. A few sites within the North Unit have lake views. All sites in the North Unit are reservable. The South Unit is managed on a first come-first served basis, and is more primitive with dirt roads and spurs and vault toilets. The South Unit has 18 tent sites and 1 RV site, but is more suited to tent campers.

The Cedar City Ranger District will TRY to have the Panguitch Lake North campground open for walk-in (first-come, first-serve) by May 14, depending on the weather conditions. By September 30, the Panguitch Lake campground will close, but the Panguitch Lake South campground and the White Bridge campground will remain open for dry camping (vault toilet, no water) until the snow falls.
