LAKES BASIN (CA), CA

Description

Located in the northern Sierra Nevada Mountains, approximately eight miles from the town of Graeagle, California. This is a small campground, with twenty-three sites (some on a first come, first serve basis). Campground is situated in the scenic Lakes Basin Recreation Area which has over twenty scenic lakes and over 50 miles of well maintained hiking trails. Popular activities include hiking, fishing, boating at Gold Lake, and viewing scenery. Firewood and maps are available for sale at the campground. Supplies can be purchased in the towns of Graeagle or Blairsden (less than ten miles away). The nearest telephone is two miles away. Sites 10, 21, and 22 can only accommodate one vehicle. Additional parking is available, but remote.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 night minimum stay on the weekends and a 3 night minimum stay on holiday weekends. No RVs on sites 10,13 and 22. One vehicle only in sites 10 and 22. NO RVS on the group site. A fee of $2.00 for pets will be collected at the campground. CAUTION: (Bears/Raccoons/etc.) frequent the area. All food must be kept in approved containers. All equipment must fit on the site pad. Vehicles park in developed areas only. Water spigots are shared between sites and are located a FEW FT away. Reservations are taken from 05/27/2005 through 09/06/2005; sites may be available on a first come - first served basis outside the reservation season. This campground has first come, first served sites.

From Quincy, California take Highway 70 east to Highway 89, turn south on Highway 89 and travel 3 miles to the Gold Lake Highway, turn right and travel 8 miles to the Lakes Basin Campground.
