LAUGHTON GLACIER CABIN (AK), AK

Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, oil stove for heat and an outside toilet. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils.Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food.Oil stove uses #1 stove oil (#1 diesel) or kerosene to be supplied by user. For list of stove oil suppliers for the (Juneau and Skagway area) call (907) 586-8800. Fuel consumption is approximately 1 gal/day with stove on low setting. Proximity: Two miles west of Canadian border,on North side of Sawtooth Mountain Range. Train transportation must be arranged in advance, call (800)343-7373. Area is surrounded by mountains. It is a spruce and sub-alpine fir forest with moose, brown bear and black bear. Trail to cabin follows Skagway River drainage. Reservation holder named on the reservation letter must be member of party using the cabin. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator, such as an outfitter or guide, is NOT allowed. There are NO discounts for Golden Age or Golden Access passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - Sept. 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1- April 30.

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

You may reserve this cabin on the day of arrival, or up to 180 days in advance. Hiking and trail access only. Stream water must be boiled or treated before drinking. Area not snow free until early June. All garbage and food must be packed out. Train access to trail head available only from early May to late September. Hiking trail from RR tracks to cabin is approximately 1.5 miles. Heavy snows in winter with high avalanche danger on RR tracks and hiking trail.
