Description
Judith Guard Station provides you an opportunity to stay at an historic ranger station constructed by a ranger in the early 1900's. This two story frame building is a national historic site, and has been furnished and decorated with historically accurate furnishings and wallpaper. It is adjacent a small existing campground. There is a modern vault toilet adjacent the station. The surrounding country is rolling ponderosa pine hills and the station is adjacent the Middle Fork of the Judith River.

The Judith Guard Station is a historic ranger station dating from the early 1900's. The two story frame building is a designated National Historic Site located a stone's throw from the Middle Fork of the Judith River. The Station sleeps eight (8) people. It is not accessible. It is located about 30 miles southeast of Stanford, MT. The facility can be driven to by regular passenger vehicle until it gets snowed in. The road is usually plowed within two miles of the Station during winter months. There is no water or electricity in the Station. Portable propane lanterns are available on site, but users must provide their own propane cylinders. A potable water hand pump is located nearby and is operational from late May to mid September.
This site is a "Pack In/Pack Out" and renters must bring their own garbage bags. Visitors must clean the cabin and police the site before leaving. Occupants will be billed for damage or extra clean-up costs. No pets or livestock are allowed.
The fee for rental is $60 per night and the cabin may be rented for a maximum of consecutive 14 days.
The cabin may be reserved up to 180 days in advance. Renters must be at least 18 years of age. A driver's license with a photo is required for positive identification at the time the key is picked up. The key will not be mailed out. The key may be picked up only during regular business hours, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at any of the Lewis and Clark Forest Service offices (Stanford, White Sulphur Springs, Harlowton, Neihart, Choteau or Great Falls). The key may not be picked up more than three (3) days in advance. The key must be returned within 5 days of final reserved date to the office where it was picked up at. From Great Falls travel east on U.S. Highway 87 about 63 miles to Windham,
MT. From Windham, turn off Highway 200/87 heading south for about 10
miles to Utica, MT. At the Oxen Yoke, turn south on the graveled county
road. Continue south for about 13 miles, turn right at the "Y" junction.
Continue southwest for about one mile, at this "Y" junction, stay to the
left and continue on for about one mile, which leads you to the Judith
Guard Station cabin.
