HELM CREEK CABIN (AK), AK

Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, wood stove for heat & an outside toilet. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. The person holding the reservation for this cabin must be at least 18 years of age. There are NO discounts for Golden Age or Golden Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Cabin is located at sea level at mouth of Helm Creek with large mudflat at low tide. Second growth can be seen from the cabin. No trail to Helm Lake. Wildlife viewing including deer, mountain goat, black and brown bear, and seals. Fishing includes salmon, halibut, and red snapper. Trout fishing is available at Helm Lake. 12' x 14' Pan-Adobe cabin, two single/two double bunks, woodstove, outhouse mooring buoy. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30. Please do not confuse this cabin with the Helm Bay Cabin, which is located on the other side of the bay.

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Same day reservations allowed for this cabin. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator, such as an outfitter or guide, is NOT allowed. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. Water should be treated or boiled prior to drinking. All garbage and food must be packed out.

Located on the east shore of Helm Bay near the mouth of Helm Creek. It is about 24 miles from Ketchikan, west of the Clover Pass area. The cabin is accessible by floatplane or by boat with a buoy located directly in front of the cabin.
